ASHER LAFFERTY ARCHITECTURE
Located off of E. 46th Street and centered between Norwaldo Avenue and Kingsley Drive, IND MCA is a family-oriented center that focuses on bringing its surrounding community closer together. The architectural building blocks that make up the form of this building allow for the flat, open rooftops to be used in a variety of ways. A portion of the rooftops act as a base for a field of solar panels and wind turbines to help power the YMCA and its residences while the others are used as public oases that invite the residents and YMCA visitors to not only enjoy and utilize the interior spaces of the Y, but the exterior spaces as well. To make up for the lack of greenspace on the site, multiple green roofs will be implemented to encourage members to enjoy the nature they are not always close to when living within the city. This sustainable retreat provides shelter and education for all families and nourishes its community by empowering it to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.
